Wenzl Bäkerie

Welcome to my family bakery and kitchen!

Besides quilting, I love to bake and cook. Now the problem with the urge to bake is that we no longer have a household full of people.  It’s just the two of us, so I share my baking with my friends and family.    I was talking to my friend about baking and told her I figured it was in my blood.  My mother’s family had a bakery in the village of Arnbruck, Germany (photo) since the late 1800’s.  The family name was Wenzl and the bakery was still in existence until the turn of this century.  My mother and aunt also loved to bake and some of the recipes I am going to share come from them.  Some from other websites, whose links I will share, or from cookbooks that I own and some are my own recipes.

Over the years I have noticed that quilters are usually great cooks. So I thought this would be a great way to share my recipes with all those you come to my website.  If you enjoy quilting, there is the chance that you might also like to cook and bake.

I cook and bake like I quilt, can’t leave a recipe alone, inevitably I mess with it.  No matter what, I will tweak them in one way or another.  I like to use my crockpot too, and will present some of those recipes too.  And then there are all those casseroles, too.  The recipes I am sharing are ones that I have made numerous times in my kitchen.  Since we live at 5600 feet, I am not too successful with cakes, no matter how I try, I have problems.  So you won’t be seeing too many cake recipes here.  Although there are a couple that I might share that don’t give me quite the headache that some do.

From time to time, new recipes will be added and mentioned on the blog.  Click on the thumbnail or title and that will take you to the recipe.
