Wenzl Bäkerie

Welcome to my family bakery and kitchen!

Besides quilting, I love to bake and cook. Now the problem with the urge to bake is that we no longer have a household full of people.  It’s just the two of us, so I share my baking with my friends and family.    I was talking to my friend about baking and told her I figured it must be in my blood.  My mother’s family had a bakery in the village of Arnbruck, Germany, the photo above, since the late 1800s.  The family name was Wenzl and the bakery was still in existence until the turn of this century.  My mother and aunt also loved to bake and some of the recipes I am going to share come from them.  Some from other websites, whose links I will share, or from cookbooks that I own and some are my own recipes.

Over the years I have noticed that quilters are usually great cooks. So I thought this would be a great way to share my recipes with all those you come to my website.  If you enjoy quilting, you probably like to cook and bake, as well.

I cook and bake like I quilt, can’t leave a recipe alone.  No matter what, I tweak them in one way or another.  I like to use my crockpot, make casseroles and one-pot dishes, I will post some of those recipes, too.  The recipes are ones that I have made numerous times.  Since we live at 5600 feet, I am not too successful with cakes, no matter how I try, I have problems.  So you won’t be seeing too many cake recipes here.  Although there are a few that don’t give me quite the headache that some do.

From time to time, new recipe pages will be added and mentioned on the blog.  Click on the name and that will take you to the recipe.

*****These recipes have worked for me after making them numerous times, that is why I am sharing them.  However, I don’t guarantee they will work for everyone!  There are many factors and may depend on your ingredients, oven temperature, size of your containers, etc.  If you make any of these recipes, I would appreciate hearing from you!*****
