More than 150 years ago this padded box was illustrated in an 1867 Godey’s Lady’s Book, which was the Better Homes and Garden or Good Housekeeping magazine of its day.
Because of the shape, padding, and fabric, etc., the measurement is approximate. The large box is about 10″ at the top, about 4″ deep, about 6″ across at the base. It holds a lot!
Use it for sewing, jewelry, or other special treasures. Any 100% cotton fabric handles more easily than other fabrics. However, taffeta, satin, and velvet can also be used.
I teach a class at Academy of Quilting on how to make this box. The class includes a lot more up close photos and intricate details than the pattern itself. What is especially nice about this class is that you can start it anytime you wish.
If you decide to take the class and don’t want to cut the pieces for the box structure, order the Box Parts, below since the pattern and detailed instructions are part of your class.
