1.janbom3These aren’t all the fabrics, that are needed for January’s Block of the Month, just the flower petals and stem.  Still have to pick out the leaves and centers, but isn’t that what a stash is for?  If I don’t have the perfect fabric there, isn’t that why we have quilt shops?

I have been thinking about a Floral Alphabet theme for quite some time, but didn’t quite know how to present it.  The biggest hurdle was that there are 26 letters, at a block a month, that would take TWO years!

So I made up my mind to just do it, as my Mother liked to say.  God willing I will get through all 26 letters!  All of them have been designed and I have flowers chosen for most of them, but not designed.

To accommodate the number of letters, one month each year will have two blocks to avoid overlapping into 2018.  Lowercase letters will be presented along with the capital letters, so if you like to appliqué a banner with a name or a word, the lower case letters will be available.  Unfortunately, some of you will have to wait for two years to get the letters you need.  I will not provide them ahead of time, please do not ask.

At this point how to use the alphabet is up to you.  The blocks could be made into a quilt, banner, pillow, wall-hanging or any other home decor project.  Wouldn’t a baby quilt with this block in the center be charming?  Surround it with pieced blocks, to make it the focal point.

By the time we are finished I may have a project designed for the blocks, but at this point in time, the blocks are my main focus.

I am looking forward to it too. Just make sure that the printed fabrics don’t have large prints or use more muted or two tone ones, otherwise when you cut into them it gives a blotchy look to the motif.
